- Young-Earth Creationism
- Genesis 1–2 is literal and historically accurate. The earth is ~6,000 years old. Evolution is false. Science must conform to scripture.
- Intelligent Design (ID)
- The complexity of life (irreducible complexity — Behe) shows it was designed by an intelligent agent. Kitzmiller v Dover (2005): US court ruled ID is religious, not scientific.
- Theistic evolution
- God creates through evolutionary processes; Darwin's mechanism is the 'how', God is the 'why'.
- NOMA
- (Gould) Non-overlapping magisteria — science and religion address different questions.

Creationism & Intelligent Design
Young-Earth Creationism. Genesis 1–2 is literal and historically accurate. The earth is ~6,000 years old. Evolution is false. Science must conform to scripture.
Intelligent Design (ID). The complexity of life (irreducible complexity — Behe) shows it was designed by an intelligent agent. Not necessarily young-earth; claims to be scientific. Kitzmiller v Dover (2005): US court ruled ID is religious, not scientific.
Evolution and Christian responses

On the Origin of Species (1859): evolution by natural selection. Challenges fixed, designed species and humanity's unique special creation.- Theistic evolution: God creates through evolutionary processes. Darwin's mechanism is the "how"; God is the "why." Supported by most mainstream Christian bodies including the Roman Catholic Church.
- Teilhard de Chardin: Evolution is the unfolding of creation towards the Omega Point — the full realisation of Christ in the cosmos.

Particle physicist and Anglican priest. Science and theology are complementary. Science asks "how?"; religion asks "why?" The fine-tuning of the universe (anthropic principle) is consistent with a creator God, though not a proof.Key debates

- Dialogue / Integration (Polkinghorne, theistic evolution, Teilhard): allows genuine engagement — the mainstream Christian response.
